Update on Getting a Special Tourist Visa in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

We have done a video on this topic before when they were first discussing Special Tourist Visas but I thought it was a good idea to make one again because I have gotten a number of enquiries on this topic.

Long story short and the reason for this video, the question posed is: "Can I get an STV, a Special Tourist Visa, in Thailand?"

For those who are unaware, a Special Tourist Visa at least as it has been promulgated to this point is basically a 9-month tourist visa if you use it correctly. The reason I am making this video is because I have had a lot of people ask me, they have said "I am in X status, in some cases they may still be in Amnesty status here in Thailand and I want to get a Special Tourist Visa. I want to stay that 9 months. Can I get that?” Well those visas are only available at Thai Embassies and Consulates abroad. That is our understanding of the situation as of the time of this video. It is not possible currently to convert into Special Tourist Visa status within Thailand. So for those who are looking to do that I don't think that is going to be a viable option. You are probably going to have to look for another scenario to be able to maintain lawful status in Thailand especially after the Amnesty ends, if you are in Amnesty.

Long story short, it does not look like it is possible to convert into Special Tourist Visa within Thailand nor do I suspect that that will be possible anytime in the near future. We could be wrong and I will certainly update this channel as that situation progresses.
