Update on Medical Tourism in Thailand
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Medical Tourism, something we haven't discussed in a little while. But yes Medical Tourism, Thailand is quite a popular hub for Medical Tourism most notably because well the weather is great here, it is definitely a tourist destination but on top of that Thailand has some world-class medical facilities and really that's not an overestimation. Thailand's Medical Sector is top notch and it's very affordable. It has not become the super expensive thing that many in the West, especially the United States are used to dealing with where Medical care, medical services are just almost cost prohibitive for many people. Here in Thailand it is definitely reasonably priced and the services and the care people get are top notch internationally, there is no doubt about that.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thailand to strengthen position as wellness and medical tourism destination. Quoting directly: "According to Allied Market Research, the Asia Pacific region accounted for 35% of Medical Tourism, with Thailand contributing 9% in this sector. The country has 59 healthcare facilities accredited by the US-based Joint Commission International, which is the fourth-largest healthcare accreditation body in the world. In addition, the Government provides a Medical Tourist Visa." So yeah, we have discussed this before, there is this sort of, it's a little more nebulous and depending on your country of origin, some Embassies have a pretty streamlined procedure for issuing these "Medical Visas", other Embassies are not as familiar with it. So depending on where you are coming from, the Visa issued specifically for medical treatment may or may not be a rather straightforward endeavour.
That being said, it is possible to obtain a visa to Thailand for a fairly prolonged period of time depending on your circumstances, specifically for the purposes of Medical care. My opinion, for those who are looking into this, it's probably not a bad idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
