An Upgrade To Thai Immigration's 90 Day Reporting System?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the 90-day reporting system here in Thailand yet again. This is something that very few people I think fully understand; well they understand it if they are here in Thailand, but people that are abroad don't really get it.
First of all I want to provide some clarification here. If you are a tourist don't worry about this 90-day reporting stuff. If you are a true tourist, you are coming in either on a Visa Exemption, even on one of the new Visa Exemptions which maxes out at 90 days but you are leaving, don't really worry about this because you only have to deal with 90-day reporting if you are in Thailand for 90 days or more. If you are in Thailand for less than that, it is not something you really need to worry about. Now when you get into the issue of TM30 that is a different deal, but again TM30 for most tourists is not something to worry about because your hotel is going to go ahead and do that. You are not even going to have to worry, you are not even going to have to deal with it. On top of that, TM30 is really only effectively or practically necessary if you need something from Thai Immigration. The vast majority of tourists don't need something from Thai Immigration here internally; they just come, enjoy themselves and leave; none of those issues are something to think about. So I have had a lot of people contact me over the past year or so who are genuine tourists asking, "oh do I need to do 90-day reporting?" No don't worry about that stuff. It doesn't apply to you.
That said, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Immigration updates 90-day online reporting. Quoting directly: "The Immigration Bureau on Monday updated its online service for foreigners who need to report their presence in the Kingdom every 90 days." Quoting further: "All foreigners staying in Thailand on various kinds of long-term visas are required to confirm their address with the Immigration Bureau every 90 days. An online system has been available for several years but it was unreliable and most people continued to visit Immigration Offices in person. The Bureau has responded by improving the system in hopes that more people will use online reporting leading to fewer visits and less overcrowding at Immigration Offices."
Yeah I think that is a fair point. If they can improve this and get this system up to where it is workable in a practical manner for your everyday person, and again I have made videos on this, I am not thrilled by the sort of ubiquity if you will of all of these Government Offices throughout the land be it in the United States, here in Thailand, creating these things where they say "well you have got to go to this Office, you have got to talk to Immigration, you have got to do this or you have got to go to this website and then you have to learn our whole system in order to interact with this", I don't love that. That said and I think most expats and foreigners here in Thailand would agree, an online system for 90-day reporting would be quite nice. So I think in the end or at the end of the day I would say, it would be a good idea for Immigration to upgrade the 90-day reporting system to a system that is relatively easy to use by foreigners here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
