Vaccination and Thai Visa Extensions at Immigration

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the topic of vaccinations and the issue of extension of Non-Immigrant Visa status here in the Kingdom.

A recent comment on our channel I thought put this in perspective. Quoting directly: "Thai Immigration can simply not renew the non-immigrant visa if a person is on Non-Immigrant Visa refuses to be vaccinated." So basically the comment came about in discussion of whether vaccination can be required with respect to a visa extension. As discuss previously yes I think it could be. The more pertinent question for a lot of people out there I think is "Will it be?" My personal opinion, I want to make this clear, this is my opinion, is what I think will happen. I don't usually love speculating but I do think people watch this video to gain some insight into what I think so I will put it out there and I want to be clear this is what I think. I personally think probably not. I don't necessarily see this as being a requirement for visa extension.

Now we have discussed this at length in other videos but maybe in the context of a Work Permit. Work Permits have always had an inherent medical exam element to them so maybe a PCR test might be required with respect to Work Permits here in Thailand; maybe a vaccination might be required at some point. Again I kind of doubt it but I could see it being more likely in the context of Work Permits in Thailand that I see it being a requirement simply in the context of a Visa especially in circumstances where you have got some older folks, not going into too much detail here, but there are older folks that may have issues with certain types of vaccines and with limited availability I don't really see any time in at least the relatively near future and by that I mean the next 12 to 18 months, where they are going to make vaccination a requirement associated with certain Non-Immigrant Visas most notably things like a Retirement Visa. Again I could be wrong. That may not in fact be the case. It may go in the other direction. They may put that policy out tomorrow. I doubt it. If I am guessing, or I should say if I am just thinking what my opinion on this would be, I highly doubt we are going to see this happen in the context merely of visas. I think it might be more likely in the context of Work Permits, again it is not out there. We have done a video where we have seen some anecdotal evidence where they may have been asking for things associated with COVID tests but as of yet I haven't seen any officially promulgated policy, broad-based policy on that topic. We will certainly keep people updated on this channel as the situation progresses.
