What Exactly Are the Chinese Doing in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

Yeah, this is kind of just an op-ed piece. I have just noticed, I have read a number of articles recently and I keep abreast of this kind of news and sort of expats in Thailand and things, and it just seems like there have been a number of things that have come up involving Chinese nationals just doing kind of weird stuff here.

One actually I read in Pattaya Mail - and I won't go into too much detail on this article because I have done two videos already citing it - I made them contemporaneously with this one - but Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thai Immigration issues stern warning after two Chinese nationals forged passport entry stamp. Quoting directly: "The Thai Immigration Bureau, (Immigration Police Division 1) issued a stern warning to all tourists and foreign residents following the arrest of two Chinese nationals involved in forging official entry stamps on passports to unlawfully extend their stay in Thailand." It was frankly kind of ham-fisted attempt at pulling a fast one or circumventing the Immigration System. They basically just like wrote different things on this passport stamp. It got even worse. They submitted it to Thai Immigration, so they saw the forgery. And by the way, it doesn't matter what your stamp says, this is not an analog system anymore. The digital system is also there, so however you alter a passport stamp here in Thailand, when they check it against the Immigration System they are going to see the reality, so that is something to keep in mind, but again, it involved Chinese nationals. And then this article popped up in Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Chinese national arrested after armed standoff at Pattaya convenience store. Quoting directly: "According to employees," and I urge those who are watching this video, check out that article in detail, you can read about it. Fortunately nobody was hurt; the guy sort of was talked down from his overwrought state but it is the lead up to it that was odd I thought. Quoting directly: "According to employees, the man had entered the store in a distressed state claiming he was being followed by other Chinese nationals intent on harming him. The employees told police they saw another Chinese man following closely behind before Mr. Zhang fled to the back of the store. After staff noticed Mr. Zhang was armed, they immediately fled and alerted police." Pol. Col. Anake Srathongyu, Pattaya Police Chief, said Mr. Zhang was taken into custody for questioning. Investigators were looking into possible links to call centre scam syndicates, as the incident bore similarities to a previous case involving a Korean man fleeing a Chinese-led call centre gang near this beach town." So again, like I ask the question, what's going on here where these Chinese nationals, and okay Chinese-led call centre gangs that are doing stuff. I mean what is all of this, and where is it coming from and why does it seem to be so acutely happening now? Strange stuff.

I really don't understand exactly what the context of this is. Is it state sponsored or is it just, are these just sort of transnational criminals? And I don't have the answer to that. That's not a rhetorical question. I'm very curious to know. And why have they all decided to come to Thailand to do this kind of weird stuff? And frankly, where did the guy get a gun? That's the other question. I mean foreigners here in Thailand, I'm not saying it's impossible to procure a firearm - especially illicitly or illegally - but again all of this sort of together, again I have noticed multiple news reports in the past few months about different Chinese nationals getting involved in issues, again criminal or immigration or otherwise. Meanwhile, as we have discussed in other videos and this has been a little while ago, there was talk in the past where the Chinese wanted to put Chinese Police on Thai streets claiming Thailand was sort of unsafe or something and I have to pose the question, "how do you figure that, when it's not Thai nationals that are doing this stuff?" That are following other Thai nationals into convenience stores and one of them has a gun, and all kinds of things. Again, this is all very strange, and it causes me to ask again as the title of the video suggests, and to sort of point out the thumbnail, what exactly are the Chinese doing here? To quote from Office Space the film, “what would you say it is you do here?” I mean you're coming to Thailand to engage in all kinds of this weird elicit illegal behaviour, why?
