Why Do Foreigners Think They Can Dictate Thai Immigration Policy?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are asking why do foreigners think they should be able to dictate Thai Immigration Policy. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "Thai Government makes Visa Policies more difficult than they need to be. Thailand should have similar visa requirements as Cambodia for Visa exempt countries." Really? Okay. I mean I can say a lot of things should exist in this world. I think that I should be able to have a million dollars and a sports car and the love of all the women of the world but that's not the way the world works.

Look, comparing Thailand Cambodia while on the one hand there's something of a genuine comparison to be had there, on the other hand it really is apples and bowling balls. I mean the volume of foreign nationals that come to Thailand versus the volume of foreign nationals that go to Cambodia is substantially different; the demography of those same individuals is substantially different. On top of that, Thailand has an Immigration apparatus and a policy of wanting people to maintain proper status and they also are looking to protect their labour pool as well. While I believe Cambodia probably does have many of the same concerns, they probably just aren't as acute, so there is that aspect of it.

More than that and I don't wish to come off as cantankerous in these videos, although I am sure I do at times as the Scorpion said to the fox or the frog, depending on which version of that parable you hear, the Scorpion says “it is just in my nature”, maybe cantankerousness is just in my nature but that's not my intention. The thing that sort of concerns me is foreign nationals come here to Thailand and these are foreign nationals oftentimes that come from a country and I don't know where this commenter comes from but I would presume from the West, comes from a country where their Immigration system which they have never had to deal with, is cumbersome on orders of magnitude above the level of cumbersomeness that exists within the Thai Immigration system. For example the United States, just to get a Visa that would be the equivalent of like an O Visa, although there isn't an exact equivalent because a Marriage Visa, well I guess there is in a sense, the K-3 Visa is somewhat analogous to an O Visa insofar as it is a non-immigrant Visa and it is based on marriage but you are still looking at over a year just to get the visa as opposed to a matter of a few days or a week or so to deal with a Thai Embassy to get an O Visa based on marriage. Thailand's Immigration System it's not nearly as cumbersome as Immigration systems of the Western nations so it kind of rankles me when I see Westerners come to Thailand wanting to tell Thai Immigration how the cow ate the cabbage.
