Yes, There Is an Income Option for Thai Retirement Visas

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, I am bringing up yes, I am aware that there is an income option for Retirement Visas. Let me just get into this. I received an email from a viewer, quoting directly, and I am not making this video because I am upset about the comment, I just thought yeah, I probably should do a follow-up on this. But for those who have watched my videos with any like over any period of time, yeah, I am well aware of the criteria associated with the Retirement Visa, but I can understand if you are a new viewer or something, you haven't been brought up to speed on Retirement Visas.

I have made nearly 8,000 videos at this point. I am very well aware of the criteria associated with Retirement Visas but that said, quoting directly: "Just watched one of your videos, name: Timing of Financial Requirements for Thai Retirement Visa, just wanted to add this note that you may have missed. “I have been in Thailand for 11 years and have had many types of visas and with my Retirement Visa, I never showed any money in the bank. I always fought with them and pointed out the clause that it is 800K or show 65,000 coming in every month through retirement. So yeah, I opted for that. I made sure I don't have any money in the bank, and I just want to point that out to you."

Yeah, I know. There are a million ways to skin a cat when it comes to visas across the board in Thailand. As I have also discussed in another video, there is the sort of mixed category which, I got into a kerfuffle with the people in the comments about that some time ago where as a practical matter, I don't view there being a mixed category but in theory, you can mix a bank balance with being able to show funds. That said anything that you wanted deal with that become subject to the discretion of a Thai Immigration Officer you are not going to be placing yourself in the most optimal position just as a matter of course, and as a practical matter I have really never seen with any certainty or any regular basis where mixing bank balance with incoming income that meets neither of the other criteria, but together could arguably meet the criteria has really worked. But that said, I have heard stories, there are people, you always hear about some guy's cousin's brother's dog or whatever that got something done and meanwhile as a practical matter, you never seen it yourself. That said, bringing in income itself, yes 65,000 a month, 65,000 baht per month inbound income that can be shown routinely every month, over the course of a given year, generally speaking that will be considered sufficient to be able to renew a Retirement Visa.

Now that said, again Immigration Officers have discretion to make decisions based on whatever they see fit but that said, yes there are multiple thresholds one can meet in order to meet the financial criteria associated with the Thai Retirement Visa. So yeah, I guess it is worth pointing that out. I was making that video to discuss the fact that timing of Bank balances is now becoming increasingly important as they want to see the bank balance not only on the day that the Visa is renewed, but also a balance maintained two months prior and three months after the Visa is ultimately issued. That said, yes, you can use income as an alternative to utilizing a bank balance, so as I said previously, there is a million ways to skin a cat as it pertains to Immigration here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
