American Visas for Thai Wives and Girlfriends?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are being kind of specific in this video, talking about Thai wives and girlfriends. The fundamental fact of the matter is notwithstanding the fact Thailand has legalized marriage equality here in Thailand, so it is possible to have same-sex marriages here in this jurisdiction, the vast majority of cases we deal with are different sex couples, usually involving an American male and a Thai female. So just to be clear that's why the title of this video is what it is. It's supposed to specifically deal with this particular subset of folks.

Now most people when they are looking at bringing their girlfriend and/or spouse back the United States, well the first sort of plank of the analysis if you will, is are you married or not? If not, you have more choices insofar as there is the option to go for the K-1 Fiancé Visa as opposed to the K-3 Marriage Visa or the CR-1 or IR-1 Immigrant Spouse Visas, so that's the first difference. Again, getting married can have an impact on one's options with regard to Immigration. For that reason, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed before making any final decisions regarding marriage so as to fully flesh out all of one's options as to how to get to the United States.

But as noted, it is possible to get both a fiancé to the United States as well as a spouse to the United States using family-based Visas. So there's both the K-1 Fiancé Visa, again as well as the K-3 Marriage Visa, as well as the CR-1 and IR-1 Immigrant Spouse Visas which can also be utilized for travel to the USA for living therein. Again, it's going to depend on the underlying facts in your given case as to what type of Visa you want to seek. But if you are not yet married, the thing to take away from this video is again it may be a good idea to contact someone before getting married in order to ascertain all of your options in order to proceed in the most efficient and straightforward manner.
