CR-1 & IR-1 Visa Interview Appointments at the US Embassy in Bangkok

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests we are discussing CR-1 and IR-1 Visa interviews. For those who are unaware, we are talking about Immigrant Spouse Visas although strictly speaking, IR visas could be other Immediate Relatives of American citizens or lawful permanent residents but I am going to do this from mostly from the context of marriage visas. That is the vast majority of cases we see process through the Embassy here.

The thing to take away from this video is it appears that interviews are being scheduled. Now please note, at least as of 2021, these first few weeks of January, I have yet to actually see one be held. We have seen some visa interviews held in the latter part of 2020. Then as noted in prior videos on this channel, they shut things back down up until January 5th. We are now seeing things being scheduled more towards the end of January, early February. As of yet we have actually yet to see anything scheduled. This is notable because we are still dealing with, at least locally here in Thailand, for lack of a better term this "second wave" and there are certain restrictions associated with doing business and just going about one's day-to-day life here in Thailand. It remains to be seen whether or not this will have ramifications with respect to possible cancellation of interviews in the future. I am not saying that is a foregone conclusion, I am simply saying it is sort of out there in the background something to possibly think about. Long story short, yes we are seeing certain interviews being brought forward from National Visa Center. We are seeing things scheduled; most of them are at the end of January or the beginning of February. As noted, it remains to be seen if these might be canceled due to any possible further complications arising from the on the ground circumstances resulting from the response to COVID-19 here in Thailand. I don't necessarily anticipate that although I am not saying it's a guarantee that it won't happen.

The other thing to bear in mind is the fact that the Department of State has made an announcement respect to the fact that folks who are looking to go to the United States, anyone, this includes US citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents, need to have a COVID exam prior to leaving for the USA. We have made other videos on this channel getting into the details of that. This shouldn't directly have ramifications with respect to the Embassy interview; it is more pertinent for the actual act of getting on a plane.

I don't think this is going to impact interviews and perhaps I should say yet, because it remains to be seen. At least for now it doesn't look like it is going to have an impact on that. We will update you on this channel as the situation evolves.
