CR-1 Visa Processing from Thailand During COVID-19 Crisis

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the CR-1 Visa and we are discussing it specifically in front of the backdrop of the Coronavirus outbreak and the ramifications of that here in Thailand.

I have had a number of correspondence regarding the CR-1 Visa and just exactly what is happening with respect to the Immigrant Visa process. As a prelude please understand, yes currently the Immigrant Visa unit at the US Embassy here in Bangkok, Thailand has suspended interviews which means effectively they have suspended issuing new Immigrant Visas such as the CR-1. That being said, that should not dissuade folks who are already looking to file a case from doing so because that is the end of the process; that is the tail-end, the light at the end of the tunnel if you will. If you are looking to get a CR-1 Visa to the United States, the process begins far earlier; months earlier sometimes years earlier, or maybe at least one year earlier than the interview itself because you have to deal with the Department of Homeland Security first, then the National Visa Center, then the Embassy here. So just because the Immigrant Visa unit is not processing interviews for visas and not processing out Immigrant Visas themselves, this does not mean that a petition for an Immigrant Visa cannot be filed. The Department of Homeland Security is accepting filings and those are being processed as per usual, presumptively.

So the thing to take away from this video is, Yes although we have delays associated with this, it should not be dissuasive to folks who are looking at filing a CR-1 visa application for their Thai loved one.
