I-327 Re Entry Permits to the United States

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the re-entry permit to the United States.

For those who are unaware, a re-entry permit kind of looks like a little passport; that is basically what it looks like. It is a travel document. It is for those who have a Green Card in the US; those who have got Lawful Permanent Residence. It allows them to leave for a maximum of two years and it forestalls the presumption of an abandonment of Permanent Residence. Someone can go ahead and get a re-entry permit leave the United States and if they are gone for over a year, so long as their re-entry permit does not expire, they can return to the USA.

This can be in my opinion especially for those who spend a prolonged period of time abroad even though they may be within, there are no hard and fast rules but they are within the criteria, the unwritten criteria of not being out of the US for too prolonged a period of time within a given calendar year even for those folks, it is probably a good idea to have a re-entry permit. It just streamlines things; it makes it for lack of a better term, easier and more straightforward to come and go from the US and you don't have to worry about the longer you are away, raising the presumption of abandonment of permanent residence so long as you get back to the country prior to the re-entry permit expiring.
