K-1 Visa Thailand: Issues Regarding Cannabis

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing K-1 Fiancé Visas here in Thailand, processing cases from Thailand.

There has been a lot of news recently about Cannabis reform; the law in Thailand regarding cannabis reform, cultivation etc. and I thought I would go ahead and make this video as a reminder that presently in the United States, Cannabis remains, as far as I am aware at the Federal level, a highly regulated and I would say illegal drug. It is considered a Class 1 narcotic. There are a number of restrictions associated with Cannabis federally.

For purposes of this video, what we are more concerned about is the Immigration Nationality Act and the Immigration Nationality Act continues to have restrictions or what are called legal grounds of inadmissibility associated with those who have anything to do with cannabis; production, sale, anything.  Marijuana is still considered and trafficking in marijuana, whatever you want to call it; possession, sale, use, all of that including conviction but even possibly without a conviction could lead to a finding of inadmissibility. So folks who are, I am making this video for folks mostly coming out of Thailand because the rules are changing here in Thailand with respect to this and I can definitely see scenarios arising from these changes where folks think "well you know it is not a problem anymore; it is legal here in Thailand". Whatever that may be I am not saying it is totally legal here in Thailand. We have got other videos on cannabis on this channel. That is not the point I am trying to make. There are many, many restrictions associated with Cannabis and production, cultivation etc. However, the laws on this are relaxing and people should be aware that being involved in that area can have substantial negative implications when processing a K-1 Visa to the USA.

So those who are thinking about that who might have intentions with respect to US Immigration in the future, it may be a good idea to contact a legal professional in order to gain some insight and guidance before proceeding and making any irrevocable decisions regarding Cannabis or US Immigration.
