Trump Creates New "Gold Card" to Replace EB-5 Visa?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing it appears Mr. Trump has created a new kind of "Gold Card" which is going to replace the EB-5 - that is the employment-based category 5 visa. For those who are unaware, the EB-5 visa is a rather popular visa as it is the so-called "Green Card by Investment" Visa. It allows those who invest in the United States in certain types of programs to gain an EB-5 Visa as a result of that investment. It now appears that Mr. Trump is changing this program.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from unusualwhales.com, and I found this from Unusual Whales on Twitter, or X, unusualwhales.com, the article is titled: Trump said will begin program to sell Trump Gold Cards for $5 million for foreigners who want to come into the US and create jobs. Quoting directly: "Trump announces $5 million dollar "Gold Card" Visa with Citizenship Path." For those who are unaware, if you are in a Green Card at that point that you have Permanent Residence, depending on how much time you spend in the United States and whether or not if you have grounds of inadmissibility which may keep you from naturalizing, but okay, if those are absent, it will depend on the amount of time in the U.S. and going through all the process of naturalizing, but yeah you can be placed on that path currently with an EB-5 through a Green Card, but with this new Gold Card program presumably you would be in Permanent Residence, that would provide a path to citizenship as well. Quoting further: "President Donald Trump announced Tuesday plans to introduce a "Gold Card" Visa that offers a path to U.S. citizenship for $5 million, replacing the 35-year-old EB-5 Investor Visa program."
Quoting further: "New Program to replace EB-5 Visas”. Quoting directly: "Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that the "Trump Gold Card" will replace the existing EB-5 Visa program within two weeks. Established by Congress in 1990, the EB-5 program allows foreign investors to secure a U.S. Visa by investing at least US$1 million in a business that creates at least 10 jobs." Quoting further: "Lutnick emphasized that the Gold Card - which grants permanent residency (a green card) - will set a higher financial threshold for investors while eliminating the fraud and inefficiencies associated with the EB-5 program. Like all green cards, it will provide a path to U.S. citizenship."
So clearly, what we are looking at here - very similarly to the Thailand Elite Visa program changes that we have seen over the past few years - it looks like Mr. Trump is upping the financial threshold in order to enter what we used to call the EB-5 program, now apparently going to be called the Gold Card program, you're going from 1 million now, up to $5 million minimum investment. Again in the past, it used to be half a million dollars; it went up to a million later, and as a practical matter really the amounts are actually higher. But that being said, Trump is substantially raising that threshold to $5 million and that's a big deal, that's going to make a big difference.
So that said, it remains to be seen how exactly this will impact the EB-5 program. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
