Update on American Visas from the US Embassy in Laos

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing American Visas specifically in Laos. We recently received this comment on our channel. Quoting: "You did a video on the US Embassy in Laos a few months ago indicating US visas were discontinued in Laos due to their refusal to accept their nationals under INA section 243d. Do you have any updates on its status now?  Has the Visa sanction been lifted against Laos?  That specific memorandum was set to expire on December 31, 2020. Has that been extended? Any additional information would be appreciated."

Well, I can provide some insight. I want it noted this should not be viewed as completely definitive on the subject but yes, we have seen visas being processed through Laos since the beginning of the year actually. Now I am not going to get into specific details there for issues of confidentiality. But long story short is yes, we have seen some cases starting to move through there. Now I haven't actually seen a Visa processed out yet.

We have been dealing with Consular processing basically in the same way we have been dealing with Consular processing here in Thailand in the aftermath of this COVID response and frankly, since the change in administration things have changed a lot with respect to NVC interaction with the Embassy here, at least in Thailand, as well as Laos for that matter. So, I would say it is safe to be cautiously optimistic. Yes, it does look like things are moving through Laos. We will keep you updated on the status of that as the situation progresses.
