What Line Should A K-1 Fiancée Visa Holder Use When Entering The USA?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing protocols associated with US Customs and Border Protection and how this applies to which line to use when a K-1 fiancée is travelling into the United States.

I get this question rather frequently and generally speaking the answer is the Permanent Resident line - if there is one - is the best one for a K-1 Fiancée Visa holder to utilize. Again different airports are going to have different protocols so sometimes you may have to even go through the tourist line if you are a foreign national; when in doubt maybe ask. Now again I totally understand where one is bringing in their Thai fiancée and they are not traveling with them, a Thai fiancée is probably not going to just go walking right on up to a Customs and Border Protection Officer and say "what line should I be in? Please tell me." They're going to be a little more reticent, probably hesitant to talk to anybody; they just kind of want to get through. It's something of a stressful experience going through an immigration checkpoint, generally speaking. That being said, generally Permanent Resident line is the best line to go through especially if it is your first time going into the United States.

Then meanwhile, once you are in the US, again as we have noted in other videos, you have 90 days in which to get married and then apply for Adjustment of Status. Thereafter, once Adjustment of Status is issued, that's Lawful Permanent Residence. Now generally speaking, again if there is a line for Lawful Permanent Residents then Green Card holders would generally use that when travelling into the United States.
