Will Ending the Thai Emergency Decree Change the K-1 Visa Process?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well the Emergency Decree. It has recently been announced here in Thailand that they are going to end the Emergency Decree and I have had a few people contact me and ask me do you think this is going to change the overall K-1 Visa process. It's not a bad question and the two would not seem to be overly related but in point of fact, especially in the past years now that we have been dealing with this whole thing where there has been all this lockdown and shut down and what not and then trying to simultaneously deal with the US Immigration process, although they would seem sort of unconnected issues, in many ways they are really not.

So what are we talking about here? Well one of the big things that has happened in the past couple of years especially in year one of this, the US Embassy here in Thailand took the position that, they didn't necessarily have to go along with protocols that were dictated by the Thai Government, but as a courtesy, as the Embassy here is basically an official guest of the Thai Government, they did undertake many of the COVID protocols that were implemented as a result of the Emergency Decree as a courtesy to the Thais. My opinion, this is nobody's fault, it just is what it is, in my opinion this slowed down case processing rather considerably. So the question becomes by rescinding the Decree, are we going to see the case process speed up? I think there is a good chance we might see that. Now the question is, is it going to be appreciable enough that anybody is going to really notice? That is a good question. In the K-1 process I think that it is possible. Now with the Immigrant Visa process, unfortunately that is an ongoing quagmire that I don't know at what point we are really going to see major improvements get made over there. With K-1s I definitely could see a situation where we might actually see these cases processing quite a bit more quickly and that would definitely be good news I think for a lot of folks who are looking to take their loved one back to the United States as soon as possible.

So again, we will keep you updated on this channel but I definitely think it is good news that the Emergency Decree is being rescinded as I think, if the worst case scenario it is neutral, it does nothing for the K-1 process, but I think it will actually help in the long run.
