As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the K-1 Fiancée Visa, specifically we are discussing it in the context of Work Permits. Work Permits have been something of a major topic the last couple of days because there is some kind of bipartisan discussion in the House regarding the current border crisis, which it can only be described at this point as a crisis. I don't think there's anyone with any common sense can have any rational discussion without saying "look whatever is happening at the border it's not good, it's a crisis, it's a real problem." And in the United States it seems that the solution to this is to, we will go ahead and throw this photo up, this is from like Fox News or something, but one of the solutions to this is to just grant illegal immigrants Work Permits after they have been released from custody. I don't understand how that is a solution to that issue but whatever. 

Leaving that aside how do Work Permits play in with K-1 Fiancée Visas because a K-1 Visa does not confer Green Card status at entry. It allows someone to enter the United States for 90 days for the sole purpose of marrying their American fiancé and then going ahead and filing to get their Green Card approved. They go ahead and go through what is called Adjustment of Status. Well what if that person wants to work during the time period where their adjustment of status is pending? There is a document called an Employment Authorization Document also referred to colloquially as a Work Permit and it is possible to apply for one of those simultaneously with an application for Adjustment of Status and thereby once that is issued it is possible for that person to work while their Adjustment of Status petition continues to process. 

So the thing to take away from this video is Work Authorization is a component associated with a K-1 Visa for those who wish to work while they are awaiting their Green Card to be approved.
