Is the Cambodian "Green Season" Different from Thailand's?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, Cambodia in this case is discussing something they're calling the “Green” season apparently. Let me jump in and I'll do my analysis. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Cambodia backtracks on enthusiasm for Six Countries One Destination.

I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail. I'm going to quote an excerpt here and go off in a different direction; the thrust of that article goes a different way. Quoting directly: "Cambodia is stepping up its campaign to intensify and diversify its international marketing policy. The country will be represented at the London World Travel Mart next month, whilst foreign filmmakers are being encouraged to make documentaries to show that Cambodia has much more to offer than archaeological ruins. The "low" season is to be renamed the "green" season with international companies being urged to hold MICE (conferences) events. So, MICE is some acronym for different kinds of conferences.

In any event, this "green" season", why are they calling it that? I think that's rather interesting. I first saw this term I think in the Phuket News where they were talking about how this past summer they were no longer going to refer to sort of May, June, July going into August even, as the "low" season and we are going to start calling it the "green" season, and they were calling it that as sort of a semi-joke because many of the people who were staying in Thailand in the off-season were doing so to partake of the legalization of Cannabis here in Thailand. So that was the reason for the green season. I would be curious to know, has Cambodia legalized Cannabis? Was it ever criminalized? I don't know what the laws over there in Cambodia are with respect to Marijuana and Cannabis and Hemp so I can't speak to that, but it was kind of an odd little take in this article that they said, "well they're calling it the Green season now". Are they just doing that to copy the Thais who put kind of positive spin on low season, and if they are, do they understand the context the ‘green” season was initially, that term was initially used, because they were noting the phenomenon of people remaining long-term in Thailand even in so-called off season because they were looking to benefit from the fact that Thailand had legalized Cannabis. I don't know exactly what that means. I'll try to do some further research and we will keep you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
