Information on Inbound Immigration to the Union of Myanmar

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Inbound Immigration to the Union of Myanmar. We are discussing this basically from the context of folks who may be trying to do a Visa Run or Border Run in order to regularize and maintain their status here in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The following information is on the website of Myanmar Immigration and to quote directly:  "Notification on temporary suspension of entry for foreign nationals with entry visa through border checkpoints”. Quoting further: “With a view to preventing importation and spread of COVID-19, the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has temporarily suspended entry of any foreign nationals through any border checkpoint being open between Myanmar and its neighboring countries. The entry and exit of local population on both sides of the Border through the existing checkpoints concerned will not be restricted. They will be subject to health check and temperature screening at the entry of the Border checkpoints. Any foreign national with valid entry Visa may enter and exit to and from Myanmar only at Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw International airports in accordance with the existing rules and regulations."

So the thing to take away from this video is at least as of the end of June at the time this video is being made, we are not looking at a situation where it is going to be feasible to use Myanmar as a host or receiving country for purposes of a "Border Run" or a "Visa Run". Now this may change and as things progress, we will certainly be making updated videos on this channel.

It is interesting to note that the Thai authorities are discussing so-called "travel bubbles" with various countries including their neighboring countries and we may end up with a situation wherein we could see some kind of "travel bubble" arrangement being set up wherein somebody can be able to travel over to Myanmar and possibly get back into Thailand in order to regularize and maintain their Immigration status here in the Kingdom.
