Malaysian Immigration Ready to Reopen Borders with Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Malaysian Immigration policy. I got to think about this when reading a recent article from the New Straits Times, that is www.nst.com.my and the article is titled: Immigration dept ready for Border reopening. Quoting directly: "JOHOR BARU: The Immigration Department is ready for the reopening of the country's borders, especially in receiving foreign tourists, said its Director General Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud. He said among the main International entry points for the purpose were the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor."

So yeah, interesting that it looks like, it is kind of getting a little déjà vu, inverted déjà vu in that at the beginning of all of this going back to 2020, we started doing a lot of reports about the neighboring countries - Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia even Vietnam, and they were starting to shut down and discussing border closings and things. Now we are starting to see things kind of ease up and it is looking like things are coming online; things are opening up little by little.

So interestingly, it looks like it may be possible that you could see some cross border travel between Thailand and Malaysia in the relatively near future. What this means for the prospect of Border runs and Visa runs to either the Thai Embassy down in Kuala Lumpur or over the Border and back remains to be seen.
