"Notice of Maximum Daily Transaction Limit" on Thai Banking Debit Cards?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are following up to a prior video we made. We got an email from a viewer that said, "hey they're putting a cap on the amount of money I can withdraw from my account. What's going on?" I made that video. That said, someone who views our channel quite regularly sent me over this. This person actually had to take a photo of their phone with another phone to be able to forward this information on because apparently the way it's being sent as a notification, it can't be forwarded or anything. Which again it seems like this stuff is being tried almost through surreptitiously and that again causes concern to me because it's like one, I don't agree with any of this banking stuff, and a lot of this is just complete and utter nonsense. But that being said, on top of all of that, to do it under this sort of sneakiness, it just adds to the consternation that is created from all this.
That being said, I am going to go ahead and quote directly from this notice. We will go ahead and blur out the name of the bank; the bank's logo is on there; we are going to go ahead and blur all that out. But that said, quoting directly:
Notice of maximum daily transaction limit change for your, we will call it Bank Debit Card, we'll just say, "The bank has changed the maximum daily transaction limit on your bank debit card to reduce transaction risk, effective from 22 January 2026." I love the wording of all this: "to reduce transaction risk." The banking system has been fine here; frankly it's been flawless and worked really efficiently. As I've discussed in other videos, I have serious concerns about this in terms of how it's going to affect liquidity and velocity of money here in Thailand, for a variety of different reasons. But that said, let's keep going:
Debit card number: blah, blah, blah.
Cash Withdrawal Limit: 20,000 per day
Funds Transfer Limit: 30,000 Baht per day
Spending limit: 50,000 Baht per day.”
Now let's really think of this. This is the bank telling people you can't spend more than 50,000 Baht of your own money, and let's also not forget, we are the customers of these Banks. Where do they get off talking to us like this, and telling us these things like this? I am very hopeful that in the upcoming election, the electorate will make their views on a lot of this nonsense. I view it all as undue foreign influence coming into Thailand it's going to wreak havoc on this economy to say nothing of our inherent liberties as Thais. Now it's my understanding that this primarily pertains to foreigners right now, but frankly all the banking stuff we saw get started last year, initially pertained to foreigners and then next thing you know it started pertaining to the Thais. So again, I'm making this more to warn other Thais, more to warn everybody. This is what's happening and frankly I don't like it, and I'm hoping other people start looking around and saying, "hey, is this how we want to bank? Do we want to use Banks that treat us like this, with our own money?
Quoting further: "You can set your preferred daily transaction limits given they do not exceed the maximum daily transaction limits specified above." Again, the double speak of Nanny-minder tyranny. "Oh you can set your own transaction limits, as long as they don't go above our transaction limits." What does that even mean? So you can set it lower on yourself? You can restrict yourself more than we will restrict you?
Quoting further: "You can change your daily transaction limits", and they give instructions.
We are making another video contemporaneously with this one where I get into some more details about apparently, yes there are mechanisms to up this transaction limit, but it's my understanding it requires all sorts of Orwellian hoops one needs to jump through. And I urge those who are watching this video, go check that out.
That being said, the thing to take away from this video is this is real, at least as it pertains thus far to foreigners. We will certainly be keeping people updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
