Possible Immigration Consequences in Aftermath of Grisly Murder?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing possible Immigration consequences occurring in the aftermath of the recently reported, what appears to be a murder, although again it has not been adjudicated yet, involving a foreign man and a 17-year-old Thai woman.
Just for some background here I made another video contemporaneously with this one point just talking about the case, but very quickly from Pure Guava, that's @PureGuava10300 on X, quoting directly: "The body of 17-year-old "Nong Cake" (that is the nickname of this person, of the victim) has been found after she was allegedly murdered and stuffed into a suitcase, which was then dumped in a wooded area beside a railway line. Police in Pattaya coordinated with Immigration Bureau Officers to arrest an Australian man at the airport before he could flee the country. Read the full story in the comments." So, I urge those who are watching this go check out Pure Guava, go check out any of the news sites out there regarding cover to this overall matter.
Now what this video is for. Look, I've done a lot of videos about foreigners behaving badly. I didn't make this video in that vein because I think it frankly rises to a whole other level frankly. It's not something to just sit around and talk about on YouTube about “Oh it used to be different, or whatever.” I don't want to get into that. This is just a terrible tragedy, that poor girl; I don't know what the facts are behind of it. At the end of the day, a 17-year-old girl is now gone, and we are dealing with the aftermath.
The reason for the video, look I think that there is a very good probability - I am not even going to say 'possibility' - probability this will have consequences; this will have ramifications. Policymakers are what they are. Parliament is convened; politicians are what they are. On top of that it is a grizzly situation and there has been, the cadence if you will or the momentum of for lack of a better term, foreigners behaving badly here in Thailand, their activities, and just the overall perception I think among the domestic Thai population is such that, at the very least, significant scrutiny needs to be paid toward Immigration Policy at the moment, and I think we are going to see that belief become ever reinforced in the next probably week to 10 days as we seen the news cycle here in Thailand play out with regard to this grizzly murder. That, and in the background, we have got this entire situation involving weapons caches (cache) that we have seen - I have discussed that in other videos - this whole nominee stuff reaching the point of a national security issue, coupled with tensions along the border last summer that we are still seeing that situation not fully resolved.
Long story short, I think that there is going to be something akin to a sea change in the Immigration Apparatus probably over the course of the next, probably as the summer wears on into the end of the year, and I could see as the Parliamentary session goes on, we could also see possible changes with regard to Immigration. We are already seeing crackdowns across the board regarding scrutiny of documentation etc., so exactly how this plays out remains to be seen, but I think it is safe to say, in the aftermath of this, and this coming on the heels of just over the course of the last two years, just story after story after story, and there are folks out there that will say, "oh I looked this up or did this, or I talked to AI" - I'm really tired of people talking to AI as if that is the definitive end all be all answer to everything. As we know, AI will give totally; there was the situation involving the woman that used ChatGPT as their Attorney. ChatGPT just falsified an entire body of law. AI is not foolproof at the end of the day, and I think it is very safe to say and I have talked to many different people, especially since the end of COVID, since 2022, the behaviour of foreigners has just been different here, and in the past 18 months, 2 years, we have also seen an influx of foreign nationals and an influx of problem foreigners, an increase in problem foreigners as that has gone along. I think there was already some momentum behind the idea of making major reforms with respect to Immigration. In the aftermath of this case, I think that those calls will become ever louder and more acute and I think it is very probable we will see major changes I think in the instant, sort of in the immediate foreseeable future, I think we'll see that in an enforcement context: heightened scrutiny, more people may be even turned away at border checkpoints if they can't show valid reason for being in Thailand etc. At the same time, I think where we have a convened Parliament, a situation with a 17-year-old dead, presumably at the hands of a foreign national, coming off of the again the momentum of all of these recent stories we have been hearing about foreigners doing all kinds of things here in Thailand, I think there is a very high probability that we are going to see very negative outcomes or possibly changes that are not going to be from a policy standpoint, that are not going to be particularly in the favour of foreigners.
Exactly what that looks like remains to be seen, so we will certainly be keeping folks updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
