Should the 90 Day Report System be Fixed or Eliminated in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As a title of this video suggests, we are discussing 90-day reporting in Thailand. This is a topic that comes up rather frequently; we get a lot of people contacting us about this.

A rather interesting letter that was sent to the Bangkok post, to their Postbag, the letter was titled: Immigration Games, and it was from Farangs Anonymous. This was from the print edition of the Bangkok Post December 19th, 2020. Quoting directly: "At the same time, eliminate the 90-day report. You know where we are and where we have been over the years. If not fix your website so that the online reporting can be done quickly and there is no message stating "report to your nearest Immigration Office". I for one am tired of seeing that message every time I try to do this online and will not visit your office to report."

Well the first thing I would urge that writer to do is you have got to deal with your 90-day reporting or you can create some problems for yourself when you are trying to deal with things like extending your status if you haven't kept your 90-day report up. You could also get some fines as a result of that.

The question posed by this video and I thought it was relevant to point this out, I really enjoyed this letter in a lot of different ways. It brought out in my mind and I have kind of used it as a topic of making some of these videos, it has brought out a lot of what I consider to be really relevant issues with respect to Immigration that I think should at least be discussed. But yeah the 90-day reporting system I don't think we are probably going to see it go away because it is specifically required under the terms of the Immigration Act of '79. That being said, yeah could the online system be made a little bit more user-friendly?  Yeah, I definitely think that is probably a good criticism and a constructive criticism. We have dealt with the online system many times here in the office, sometimes with good luck and sometimes to no avail. Fortunately for us and for our clients, we are at Immigration rather frequently so we can assist them in dealing with that in person. But yeah long story short I can see where when you are doing this on your own, dealing with the 90-day reporting can be really kind of a frustrating experience. Again I don't think we will ever see it go away but I definitely think we could see things happen in the future where you can make 90-day reporting a little bit more bearable.
