Update on the Thai Visa Amnesty

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai Visa Amnesty.  For those who are unaware, and it has been a while since I have done a video on this, there was an Amnesty. It was created back in March if I recall correctly. It was extended again in July and then it was subsequently extended and then they have now created a sort of Amnesty category if you will with respect to folks who don't have any other Visa options but are stranded in Thailand.

In a recent article from thaivisa.com, and the article is titled: Foreigners Stranded in Thailand Due to COVID-19 Can Now Stay Until at Least 29 January, 2021. Quoting directly: "The Thai Immigration Bureau has announced that foreigners who are still stranded in Thailand due to the COVID-19 situation can remain in the country until at least 29 January, 2021. Anyone who had applied for a temporary visa extension due to COVID-19 were permitted to stay in Thailand until 30 November but according to an order released earlier this week, foreigners who apply for and are granted a new extension for a fee of 1,900 Baht."

So what to take away from this? Well most notably it sounds like you had to be in the extension to be able to gain the benefit of this further extension. So, if you fell out into overstay you might have bigger issues than the Amnesty. You may need to actually contact a legal professional to try and go ahead and get that situation rectified, if it can be rectified. The other thing to keep in mind is, yes, it looks like they are dealing with providing further status for folks who remain stranded. That said, they don't go into detail in this article at least regarding what "stranded" means. If you have to prove that up with documentation from your Embassy for example, that remains to be seen.

We will certainly do another video if we get further clarification on that as the situation progresses, but long story short, yes it looks like folks who have been stranded in Thailand can gain for a fee, another further extension of status under this Amnesty status that was created some months ago.
