Thai Special Tourist Visas: What Is a "Low Risk" COVID Country?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Special Tourist Visa, a Visa which has been hotly discussed albeit I often think it is more over-discussed than it otherwise should be because it should be noted this visa category currently has a quota of 1,200 people per month. So we are not going to see a great many of these visas being issued. That stated, I do believe it is sort of an opening salvo in a greater program and hopefully we are going to see more tourists in Thailand sooner as opposed to later.

Now the reason I am making this video is there has been a lot of discussion regarding various countries. We have discussed the US and UK specifically on this channel regarding Special Tourist Visas. A question that has come to many people's lips and they have asked me both by email and personally, "What is a "low risk" COVID country?" We have a lot of folks that ask us "hey look we are looking to come to Thailand, have a Special Tourist Visa but we don't know if we are coming from a "low risk" COVID country". Well it is going to be circumstantially dependent. Apparently as of the time of this video the UK and the US are not deemed to be "low risk" COVID countries. However other countries are and it is going to depend on your specific situation.

Now it may be possible to liaise with relevant officials to gain further insight into whether or not it is possible to gain access to Thailand via Special Tourist Visa but the other thing to keep in mind with respect to this topic is that it may be possible notwithstanding the fact your country may not be considered “low COVID risk” to gain another visa and gain access to Thailand via a different channel, via a different Visa category. So simply being present in a "high-risk" COVID country may actually result in a situation wherein one could gain access to Thailand just via a different Visa other than a Special Tourist Visa.
