Companies set up using nominee structures for foreigners to own land is not legal in Thailand as evidenced by the recent crackdowns, especially in the resort islands in the south of Thailand.

Foreigners are not permitted to purchase land in Thailand but there are other instruments foreigners can use regarding land usage, each of which have different formalities associated with the instrument chosen.

Oftentimes some media outlets may mention the scheme whereby foreigners investing 40 million baht could own 1 rai of land, when in fact this scheme was not approved.
